(RICHMOND – WINA)    The new bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond has released a list of priests that have faced credible claims of sexual abuse against children.  Two of them have Charlottesville connections.

The bishop’s list includes Julian Goodman who was at Holy Comforter Church in Charlottesville from 1999 to 2002.   He was removed as pastor after his superiors were convinced he had sexually abused a boy decades earlier at a church outside our region.

Goodman’s replacement at Holy Comforter was the Reverend Dennis Murphy.   He  was placed on administrative leave in 2004, and barred from performing Mass or other priestly duties.  Murphy had also been a chaplain at New England’s Yale University and at three campus ministries in the Roanoke Valley and the Richmond area.
