NEW YORK (AP) — Men’s top-seed Novak Djokovic had an easy time of things in his opening match. He defeated an unseeded player from Lithuania in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.

Five-time champ and seventh-seed Roger Federer made a successful rain-delayed debut winning his opening round match against Slovenia’s Grega Zemlja 6-3, 6-2, 7-5. The match was originally scheduled for Monday night.

Other first-round winners on the men’s side included Americans John Isner, the 13th-seed, and Sam Querrey, the 26th-seed, as well as fifth-seed Tomas Berdych.

On the women’s side of things, second-seeded Victoria Azarenka breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over 99th-ranked Dinah Pfizenmaier of Germany while fourth-seed Sara Errani charged into round 2 for the women with a 6-love, 6-love win over Olivia Rogowska in 51 minutes.
