A tractor-trailer driver has died after he drove off the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. The man’s vehicle slammed into a maintenance truck Thursday morning before he jack-knifed, crashed through the guardrail, went off the bridge and landed in 26 feet of water. Navy, Coast Guard and Virginia Beach Fire crews tried to rescue the driver, who was heavily entangled in the wreckage. Navy crews also hooked cables to the truck’s cab and trailer to keep it from drifting away.
