State troopers, police officers and sheriff’s deputies were out in full force on Tuesday for the Drive to Save Lives campaign. The 12-hour accelerated campaign resulted in 688 summonses and arrests in the Appomattox Division of the State Police. Albemarle and Charlottesville are part of that division. Agency spokeswoman Corinne Geller notes there were 74 highway fatalities in May 2012, which was one of the worst on record. State Police want to reduce highway fatalities by 15%.
