Lawmakers Return To Deal With Budget Stalemate

Some members of the General Assembly are coming back to Richmond Monday to work on a new state budget. Area lawmaker Creigh Deeds (pictured) and other members of the Senate Finance Committee will take up a version that expands Virginia’s Medicaid rolls. House Majority Leader Kirk Cox of Colonial Heights favors a rival plan that would not expand the Medicaid program. The Medicaid issue has been the biggest obstacle to passing a new two-year budget. The House approved a budget with no Medicaid expansion in late March.  The delegates will return to the State Capitol on Tuesday.
