The board that oversees the University of Virginia has second thoughts about a plan to quell dissent. A draft proposal has suggested that rank-and-file members of the Board of Visitors should avoid criticizing group decisions. Anyone who is not in a leadership position was urged to steer clear of media outlets unless they clear it with the Rector. Some Wahoos in Richmond, including State Senator Chap Petersen (D- Fairfax) are raising a stink. Petersen (picture) is a 1994 UVA Law School grad who describes the plan as absurd. The Washington Post says Rector George Martin wants to make major revisions to satisfy First Amendment concerns.
