A House of Delegates member from Petersburg has won a Democratic primary for a vacant State Senate seat. Rosalyn Dance was the choice of 45% of the primary voters, and her fellow Delegate Delores McQuinn (D-Richmond) was the runner-up with 36%. Dance was a Petersburg Mayor before she joined the General Assembly in 2005. Former Richmond Mayor Rudy McCollum racked up a third-place finish with nearly 16% of the vote, and businesswoman Gerry Rawlinson came in last with nearly 3%. Dance will battle Independent candidate Preston Brown in the November 4th general election. The winner will complete the final 14 months of an unexpired term in the State Senate. Richmond Democrat Henry Marsh held the seat for more than 22 years before he resigned last month. Marsh has become the newest member of the Virginia ABC Board.
