New Figures Show Many Millionaires Hold Office In Virginia

A nonprofit group says 16 state lawmakers are millionaires, and there could be more. Of the 16 who have been identified, 13 are Republicans and 3 are Democrats. Virginia’s new Democratic Governor, Terry McAuliffe (pictured), is a multi-millionaire. The Virginia Public Access Project looked at the personal finance forms of all 139 members of the General Assembly. Lawmakers do not have to provide the exact value of stock holdings and investments. They can file a broad range of worth on the required forms, and they don’t have to dislcose real estate holdings. That means likely there are more millionaires serving in the General Assembly.
