State Senator Mark Obenshain (R-Harrisonburg) has conceded in the race for Attorney General of Virginia. Obenshain declared Wednesday “the recount is almost over, and in this contest for attorney general … it’s become apparent that our campaign is going to come up a few votes short.” He says he’s aleady called Democratic State Senator Mark Herring of Loudoun County to congratulate him. Herring’s narrow victory means Virginia Democrats have achieved their first sweep of the top five statewide offices since 1969. Herring’s ticket-mates Terry McAuliffe and Ralph Northam have known since November 5th that they would be the next Governor and Lieutenant Governor, and Democrats Mark Warner and Tim Kaine hold Virginia’s two U.S. Senate seats.
