Man Sentenced For Defrauding Former UVA Basketball Star

A man who defrauded a former UVA basketball star has been sentenced. 60-year-old Thomas Patric Boggs of Brookneal is being sent to federal prison for four years and nine months. Boggs previously pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud. He admitted taking money from former UVA player Travis Watson when he was playing professional basketball overseas. Federal prosecutors say Watson considered Boggs to be a mentor and father figure when Boggs was an AAU coach. They say Boggs took money from Watson and promised to invest it, but instead used it for his own purposes. In addition to the 57-month prison term, Boggs was ordered to pay $380,000 to the victims of his fraud.
