Harrisonburg Church Survives Water Main Break

Members of a Harrisonburg church didn’t know they were prophets when they lifted their voices on Sunday. Members of Asbury United Methodist sang a song about the church’s new capital campaign, which includes the lyrics “Asbury Church is falling down, Water is seeping through the ground.” A few hours later, church leaders saw water bubbling up from the street right next to them due to a water main break. The pastor, his wife, and their son removed rock and debris from over a sewer grate to keep water from running down the slope and into the church’s Sunday School building. It worked, and the church was spared. The church is a neighbor of the Rockingham County Courthouse (pictured).
