The U.S. Justice Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the resignation of State Senator Phillip Puckett. There are claims that Puckett resigned after allegedly being offered a job on the state tobacco commission. He’s also said to have quit to remove opposition to his daughter being appointed a judge in southwestern Virginia. Sources tell the Richmond Times-Dispatch the FBI has been conducting interviews with elected officials familiar with the situation.
