The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality says our region is doing a good job of recycling. Wood Hudson of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District says the recycling rate last year was 2% above 2012. The rate was almost 40%, well above the 25% rate the state wants to see. Hudson says there was a 21% increase in single-stream recycling. Declines occurred in metals and used oil and antifreeze. The figures cover Charlottesville, Albemarle, Fluvanna and Greene.
