A Covesville man has become Albemarle County’s first highway fatality of 2014. 41-year-old Phillip John Walker died Friday after a head-on collision on 29 South near the Albemarle-Nelson County line. Police say Walker’s small car hit a van at around 8:30 p.m. Friday as he was going north in a southbound lane of 29. The van that collided with Walker’s car also sideswiped a pickup truck and hit a Chevy Silverado. The Silverado driver was treated and released from a local hospital. Police say speed does not appear to be a factor, and investigators are trying to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
