The Virginia Lottery enjoyed a record $538.6 million dollars in tax revenue during the most recent fiscal year. The previous high was $487.1 million in 2012. Virginia had a $16 million profit from the $636 million jackpot for the Mega Millions game last December. By law, the lottery profits go to the state’s K-through-12 public education.
