How it was in the 1950’s. That story is being brought to kids today by somebody who was there. It was the time of Massive Resistance, when Virginia’s governor closed some public schools to keep African-American students from integrating. Alex Zan is a motivational speaker who grew up in Charlottesville and was one of the original 12 black students to integrate the city schools. Zan has written a book called “The Skin is Just the Color.” He’s back in town to share his story with 4th grade students. Zan was a guest on the WINA Morning News With Rick and Jane.
