Many Working People Still Struggle To Pay Rent

Just because you have a job doesn’t mean you can pay the rent in Virginia. An increasing number of renters are spending more than half their income on housing, according to a new report from the nonprofit Center for Housing Policy. Report author Maya Brennan says about one in five working renters in the state are dealing with what the report calls a “severe” cost burden. Brennan says people who spend more than half their income on housing often face tough choices about what else they can afford.
