Area residents have recognized two men for making the local teaching ranks more diverse. Supporters of the African-American Teaching Fellows program have honored Eugene Williams and Juandiego Wade. Williams was a plaintiff in a lawsuit that forced the Charlottesville School Board to end racial segregation in the 1950’s and Wade (pictured) is the board’s current chairman. The salutes to Williams and Wade were a highlight of the annual John E. Baker Legacy Dinner. The late John Baker was a past chairman of the Albemarle School Board.
