Virginia Tribes Make Annual Tax Tribute

Virginia Indian tribes have made their traditional annual tax payment to the state. Governor McDonnell accepted the tributes of two deer, a turkey, a beaded necklace, beaded earrings and a carved ceremonial gourd. They were presented by Chief Mark Custalow of the Mattaponi Tribe and Chief Kevin Brown of the Pamunkey. The ceremony is the oldest continuing nation-to-nation ceremony in the U.S. dating back to 1677.
