Virginia heads into the 2013-2014 season with a seasoned, deep squad ready to take on the new-look ACC. Every player on the current roster is a Tony Bennett recruit. The group is led by 4th years Joe Harris and Akil Mitchell who headline the Cavaliers’ lineup as the top returning scorers from 2012-2013. Virginia gained recognition during ACC Media Day this past Wednesday. The Cavaliers are projected to finish fourth in the conference behind Duke, Syracuse, and North Carolina. Joe Harris was named to the first team All-ACC preseason squad and finished second in voting for player of the year behind C.J. Fair of Syracuse. The Cavaliers also were tabbed as the 25th ranked team in the coaches top 25 poll. This year marks the first time since 2001 that Virginia is nationally ranked in the preseason. Four other ACC teams are also ranked to start the season including #4 Duke, #7 Syracuse, #11 North Carolina, and #22 Notre Dame. Tip-off for the upcoming season is underway Nov. 8, when Virginia plays host to JMU at John Paul Jones Arena.
