If you are a renter and you are illegally evicted, you have a new way to fight back. Virginia has a new law that allows tenants who’ve been locked out of their homes to file a simple form in General District Court to get back in. This year’s General Assembly unanimously approved the new legal option for tenants. Christie Marra of the Virginia Poverty Law Center says landlords are required to go to court to get a tenant evicted, but they frequently take matters into their own hands.
