UVA Official Says McCormick Road Dorms Will Be Modernized

A University of Virginia official says his long-range “to do” list includes upgrades for the McCormick Road dormitories. Richard Kovatch has been working on a project that’s created new state-of-the-art residence halls on Alderman Road. Kovatch says his office wants to renovate the McCormick Road dorms in several years. Most of the McCormick Road dorms are more than 60 years old. Eight of those houses opened in 1952, and Bonnycastle and Hancock became operational three years later. Students recently adorned Metcalf House (pictured) with a banner that proclaims it’s “Magical Mystery Metcalf.” That delighted some UVA parents last weekend who are fans of Beatles music, including the “Magical Mystery Tour.”
