Yesterday was media day at the John Paul Jones Arena, and one of the top subjects was the depth of the Cavaliers. Despite multiple transfers, and off season injuries, Tony Bennett may have one of the deepest teams in the nation. The playing time will be at a premium on the perimeter, starting at point guard with guys like London Perantes, Devon Hall, Teven Jones, and Malcolm Brogdon all competing for time. The wing play is also deep with returning all ACC guard Joe Harris, joined by Justin Anderson and Evan Nolte. Many Cavalier fans are also excited about transfer Anthony Gill, and returners in the post like Mike Tobey and all ACC forward Akil Mitchell.
Tony Bennett is aware of the depth, and is looking forward to seeing his guys compete for time. ” We’ve got competitive guys, talented players, there’s gonna be a war for playing time. Will they put the team above themselves, …they have to. I think you always have to be ready because of the way the game is, foul trouble, injuries all those things.” The Hoos open up on November 8th when they host JMU, coverage can be heard starting at 6:30pm on WINA.
