UVA Medical Center CEO Howell To Retire

The head of the University of Virginia Medical Center will retire next July. Ed Howell (pictured) is stepping down as vice-president and CEO after taking the job in 2002. Howell was a high school teacher and coach before his 37-year career in healthcare. Howell says he plans to spend time in the classroom and pursue family and personal interests. He will continue teaching in the Department of Public Health Sciences after retiring as CEO. UVA President Teresa Sullivan says Howell has strengthened the Medical Center both clinically and financially. (Photo from UVA Health System)
