A University of Virginia graduate has survived a rough special election and he’s heading back to Congress. Former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford (pictured) will be the most junior member of the House of Representatives.
Sanford is a 1988 graduate of UVA’s Darden School and served in Congress from 1995-2001. He withstood a recent challenge from Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch who scolded him for leaving his wife and having an affair in South America. Satirist Stephen Colbert, who’s the brother of Sanford’s election rival, will give Saturday’s valedictory address at UVA. Sanford was a guest on the cable show Fox News Sunday.
