A car crashed into Broadus Wood Elementary School early Thursday morning before any students got there. Firefighters responded shortly after 6:30 a.m. The staff and the county fire marshal inspected the building to make sure it was safe to be entered. Broadus Wood kids were kept on the school buses while the inspection was going on. A county schools spokesman says the inspection was completed at around 7:45 and students were allowed to go in. With the exception of one classroom in the front of the building, the school was determined to be safe for occupancy. The spokesman says the wall that was damaged is not load-bearing, and supplies and materials were transferred from the damaged classroom to a vacant one. Repairs are expected to take a few weeks. County Police say the car that crashed into Broadus Wood was a Subaru Tribeca and the driver fled. Police have identified a suspect and charges are pending.
