Teenager’s Death Prompts Hampton To Cancel An Annual Concert

A deadly incident has forced a Tidewater city to cancel a carnival. The city manager and police chief of Hampton have decided to shut down the Hampton Coliseum Spring Carnival after a weekend fight that ended in gunfire. 16-year-old Raphael Davis, Jr., was found a short distance from the carnival with a gunshot wound in his chest. The teenager died a few minutes after he was transported to a Hampton hospital. A 14-year-old boy was shot in the back and he’s in critical condition.
Three other teens had less serious wounds and have been released from the hospital. The carnival that was shut down is a tradition that began in the 1970’s was originally slated to last until June 2nd.
