The Albemarle supervisors have rejected a resolution supporting Pride Festival Day. The event is a celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender culture. The resolution failed on a tie vote with Ken Boyd, Rodney Thomas and Petie Craddock voting against it. Dennis Rooker, Ann Mallek and Duane Snow supported the resolution. Rooker says it’s important to recognize a group that constitutes more than 10% of the population and has suffered from discrimination and scorn. Ken Boyd says it’s not the appropriate forum, and he worries about the supervisors’ meetings becoming a bully pulpit for various groups and causes. The Charlottesville Pride Festival is Saturday, Sept. 14th from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Lee Park.
