The Albemarle Supervisors are interested in setting up “convenience centers” where people could drop off certain types of waste material. They also want to keep using the McIntire Road Recycling Center, which the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority has operated for decades. Free Union resident John Martin (pictured) wants the supervisors to think about “long term” solid waste solutions. County Executive Tom Foley says it might be smart to extend a current contract with the Solid Waste Authority until the summer of 2014. Foley warns that setting up convenience centers will take some time.
