State Education Secretary To Take UVA Job

The Virginia Secretary of Education will step down this fall to take a job at the University of Virginia. Laura Fornash (pictured) will leave Governor McDonnell’s¬†administration in mid-November. Her new job at UVA will be¬†Executive Assistant to the President for State Government Relations. McDonnell praises Fornash in her role as Education Secretary for making Virginia colleges more accessible and affordable, and for bringing student-centered reforms to the K-12 system. McDonnell points out that the average teacher salary in Virginia is now greater than the national average. The governor’s office says an announcement about a successor will be made later.
