The Virginia Secretary of Education will step down this fall to take a job at the University of Virginia. Laura Fornash (pictured) will leave Governor McDonnell’s administration in mid-November. Her new job at UVA will be Executive Assistant to the President for State Government Relations. McDonnell praises Fornash in her role as Education Secretary for making Virginia colleges more accessible and affordable, and for bringing student-centered reforms to the K-12 system. McDonnell points out that the average teacher salary in Virginia is now greater than the national average. The governor’s office says an announcement about a successor will be made later.
