Adult soccer players in the area have been told to behave themselves at games. The Soccer Organization of Charlottesville-Albemarle (SOCA) has sent a letter to its adult league members after a fight earlier this month at the South Fork park. A player was seriously injured and taken to the hospital by ambulance. Another player was charged with assault and battery. SOCA says a similar incident happened two summers ago. The letter says this sort of behavior is absolutely unacceptable, and there have been too many incidents of unacceptable behavior for SOCA or any other league. SOCA tells the players that failure to control themselves or their teammates could result in harsher suspensions. The league says all options to curtail the behavior issues will be considered, including a season-long or lifetime ban for the individual, a team suspension, or even suspending the entire league for a season. SOCA says it might also take a look at whether it’s worth running an adult league if the issues continue.
