Slight Increase In Local Jobless Rate

The unemployment rate in our region saw a slight jump during October. The local jobless rate was 4.6%, up .1% from September. The Charlottesville area remains second behind Northern Virginia for having the lowest rate in the state, and we’re tied for the 40th lowest in the nation. Ann Lang of the Virginia Employment Commission says the federal government shutdown had something to do with the uptick.
