The price-tag for new science labs at Buford Middle School has doubled in recent months. The City School Board has learned the bids for the Buford project are several hundred thousand dollars higher than expected. Project Manager Scott Hendrix says structural repairs and asbestos removal helped to drive up the costs. The city is awarding the project to Caspian Construction of Chesterfield County. Buford (pictured) opened in 1966. It’s also designing a new science, technology, engineering and math lab for Charlottesville High School. That’s more than $200,000 higher than last year’s estimate.
