The Rutherford Institute is not happy about police safety checkpoints. The group says they’re unlawful, disrespectful, and profit-driven. That follows a recent roadblock where WINA’s Rob Schilling reported one person objected to being detained during a checkpoint July 11th on Old Brook Road. Officers reportedly threatened to smash his car window and have him arrested. The man cited his Fourth Amendment right to be free of search and seizure without probable cause. Rutherford President John Whitehead says the checkpoint was an unconstitutional and costly use of taxpayer and police resources. Albemarle Police Chief Steve Sellers will be on “The Schilling Show” Wednesday to address the issue.
