Virginia is on pace to break the annual gun sales record following transactions on Black Friday. State Police figures show gun sales broke the Black Friday record that was set last year, and Virginia is close to breaking the record for the entire year. The numbers come from mandatory background checks. Not all checks represent the sale of a gun and some customers buy several at one time. Other checks involve people reclaiming firearms from a pawn shop. About 1% of the background checks result in somebody being denied permission to buy a weapon.
