A city agency has kicked off a campaign to explain how things might change for public housing tenants. Housing Authority Director Connie Dunn is considering a new rental assistance program that the feds are promoting. It relies on housing vouchers, and Dunn has told Westhaven tenants it would improve her agency’s finances. If the city goes this route, tenants might be relocated while their units are renovated. Attorney Jeff Fogel is skeptical of the proposal, and you can hear his remarks by clicking on the button at the bottom of this article. Joy Johnson (pictured) of Westhaven shares Fogel’s doubts about the plan. The housing authority staff plans to meet with tenants of the South First Street units at 5:30 p.m. Monday. The final information session will be at 1 p.m. next Wednesday at Crescent Halls off Monticello Avenue. The housing authority wants to vote on the proposal October 28th.
