Virginia Head Coach Brian O’connor joined WINA’s The Best Seat In The House to discuss the upcoming Charlottesville Regional. O’connor has always stressed the importance of starting pitching in the NCAA Tournament. “Not knowing who your opponent will be in the second game, whether you win or lose the first one, we’ll look at it and address who’s starting that second one. We’re still in the process of looking at video and scouting reports to decide who gives us the best chance to win on Friday. Then we’ll set up our pitching from there after that decision is made.” O’connor also remains very confident in his team’s depth on the mound as well. “You never know what type of situation you’re going to be in. You know, things happen, you lose a ball game and you end up in the loser’s bracket and in order to climb out of it and win the championship you gotta win a few ball games. We’ve had a lot of pitchers go out and have a lot of success this year. We’ve got guys you can use in different roles…Kyle Krockett is a great example, he’s not just a one inning closer. You can extend this guy if you need to win a ball game, you could potentially start him too.” Coach O’connor went on to describe his comfort level with pitchers Nick Howard and Josh Sborz as well.
