Pilot Who Wanted To Fly Here Wrecks Plane

A Shenandoah Valley man who wanted to fly from Florida to Charlottesville ended his flight Monday near Fredericksburg. State Police say 33-year-old Jerome Matthew Orlando of Rockingham County was urged to go to the airport that serves Fredericksburg, because we had too much fog Monday morning in our area. Orlando found his rented plane was running low on fuel, so he landed in a field next to a Wawa gas station that’s adjacent to the Shannon Airport runway. Police say he wrecked the 45-year-old plane he was renting, but he had no injuries.
