Orange County is proposing drug testing for many of its middle and high school students. School administrators came up with a plan after they saw the results of a youth risk behavior survey. “The Orange County Review” is reporting nearly 25% of the middle school students admit they consume alcohol, and 15% say they are tobacco and marijuana users. The figures are higher for the survey respondents from Orange County High School. The drug tests would target 6th through 12th graders who take part in extracurricular activities. A partial list of the affected kids includes those who are on athletic teams, or part of a marching band and drumline. The affected students and their parents would need to sign a form that authorizes the drug testing.
