The State Board of Elections website says the one unresolved statewide contest in Virginia is much closer than it was before the Veterans Day weekend began. The latest totals show State Senator Mark Obenshain (R-Harrisonburg) still leads fellow Senator Mark Herring (D-Loudoun County) by 17 votes. More than 2.2 million Virginians cast ballots on November 5th. Obenshain’s margin was trimmed dramatically following a Saturday session of the Fairfax County Electoral Board. Herring narrowed the gap after the board added in absentee ballot results from the Eighth Congressional District. The absentee ballots from parts of Fairfax in the Tenth and Eleventh congressional districts were tabulated shortly after the polls closed last week. The board says a clerical error led to the delay with the Eighth District results. Virginia’s electoral boards have until late Tuesday to complete a canvass of their vote totals.
