New Study Questions Pilot Readiness

They rely so much on computers to do the flying that sometimes pilots are unprepared to deal with an emergency. That’s the claim of safety experts and industry studies.
They say on the rare occasion when something goes wrong, some pilots are not prepared to assume control of the plane. The statement comes as the National Transportation Safety Board holds an investigative hearing next week on the crash of the jet that was flying too low while trying to land in San Francisco. The board says the hearing will look into pilot awareness in a highly automated aircraft.
