A new report shows approximately 12 percent of tuition and fees paid by students attending Virginia’s public colleges and universities during last year went to athletics. That is the word frrom the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission. The report says state institutions charged an average of nearly 12-hundred dollars in mandatory athletic-related fees during the school year. The General Assembly had directed the commission to find ways to cut down on the cost of higher education.
