New CAT Manager Says He’s Committed To Dependable Bus Service

The new manager of Charlottesville Area Transit says he’s trying to make the buses run on schedule. John Jones wants the Route 7 buses that leave downtown for Fashion Square Mall to run every 20 minutes. Under the current arrangement, the #7 buses depart the Downtown Transit Center every quarter hour.  Jones says there are problems with the existing schedule, especially the consistent slowdowns in the University of Virginia Corner Business District. He plans to eliminate University Avenue from Route 7, and use Jefferson Park Avenue instead. Jones also wants the CAT staff to provide reliable information to riders. He wants the proposed changes to Route 7 and the start of the new Route 11 to begin early next month. #11 buses will go up Park Street and connect with Albemarle County neighborhoods near East Rio Road. CAT is also considering changes to other routes which carry fewer passengers.  Jones fielded questions from frequent bus riders (pictured) Monday night. He will hold more meetings with bus riders on July 15th and 29th.
