The major party nominees for Governor had their first debate Saturday and wasted no time going on the attack. Republican Ken Cuccinelli portrayed Democrat Terry McAuliffe as a Washington insider who can’t relate to working class Virginians and questioned his performance as a jobs creator. McAuliffe accused Cuccinelli of having radical views on social issues such as abortion and gay marriage. The two men also sparred over the Star Scientific investigations and other recent problems of outgoing GOP Governor Bob McDonnell. They shared a stage before fellow lawyers at the Homestead Resort in Bath County. Virginia voters will elect their next Governor on November 5th.
