More proof that our local economy is strong. The unemployment rate is down again. The Charlottesville region had a jobless rate of 4.9% in August. That was almost a-half percent lower than the July figure. Ann Lang of the Virginia Employment Commission says the August figure follows a trend of better numbers as the summer winds down. The Charlottesville area had the 36th lowest jobless rate in the U.S.
