Jamestown Ferry Captain Loses His Job

VDOT says it no longer employs a captain of the Jamestown Ferry who’s accused of pulling away from a pier while a young woman’s car was boarding. Captain Jack Goolsby began making trips across the James River from Jamestown to Surry County last September. A 19-year-old Southampton County woman had to swim to safety Wednesday night after her Toyota fell into the James while she was driving onto the ferry. State Police and the Coast Guard are investigating the incident, and VDOT is reviewing the way employees load and unload the ferry.
