Virginia’s inspector general is looking into whether there were inappropriate dealings between a staffer in the Attorney General’s office and energy companies. The companies are haggling with Southwest Virginia landowners over natural gas royalties. Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli declined to talk about the investigation during a campaign event in Richmond, but he released a statement later saying the inspector general will find the office acted appropriately. State Senator Phil Puckett (D-Russell County) has been pushing for an investigation of Sharon Pigeon, who’s on the Attorney General’s staff. Republican Cuccinelli’s campaign for Governor got $100,000 from one of the energy companies.
