The lawyers handling George Huguely’s appeal have taken the next step. They’ve filed the paperwork asking the full Virginia Court of Appeals to hear their case. They say Huguely should get a new trial based on five points.
Two of those claims have been supported by one appeals judge. Those are whether a juror really was impartial, and whether Huguely essentially was denied his right to legal counsel when defense attorney Rhonda Quagliana was sick during the trial. Attorneys Paul Clement and Craig Cooley hope to get a retrial for the onetime University of Virginia student-athlete.
A jury decided that Huguely (pictured) was responsible for the May 2010 beating death of his girlfriend, Yeardley Love.
