Governor McDonnell has appointed Albemarle School superintendent Pam Moran to the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. Moran is the first woman to lead our region’s largest school division, and has been the Albemarle superintendent since 2006. She holds two degrees from the University of Virginia and says access to higher education is critical to the Commonwealth’s prosperity. Moran (pictured) notes the U.S. is now tenth in the world in terms of the percentage of the population that’s earned a college degree. The Governor has also reappointed an Orange County man to a statewide board. Gary Schwartz of Locust Grove is the director of technology for the Rappahannock Electric Cooperative, and will continue to serve on the Broadband Advisory Council. The Governor has also named former Delegate Bill Fralin to represent the Salem District on the Commonwealth Transportation Board. He’s a 1985 UVA graduate, and the son of former University Rector Heywood Fralin.
