The University of Virginia has a new Rector, and he’s the first African-American to hold the post. 60-year-old George Keith Martin, who’s the managing partner of the McGuire Woods law firm in Richmond, began a two-year stint on Monday. Martin (picture courtesy of UVA Information Office) says he has a lot on his plate, including a new strategic plan and financial model. He’s a 1975 graduate of UVA and a past member of the James Madison University Board of Visitors. Martin succeeds Helen Dragas, who was the Rector last year when some board members made an unsuccessful attempt to oust President Teresa Sullivan.
